Is your table in need of attention?

Are your chairs loose and creaking?

Is there woodworm in a cherished piece of furniture?

Are veneers lifting and splitting?

We are the experts who will rescue your cherished furniture

Since 1976 Gibson & Radford are knowledgeable craftsmen with unrivalled experience in the skilled art of quality furniture restoration and the building of bespoke furniture.

We work at the highest standard at competitive prices.

For the last 44 years, we have worked for private individuals, for some of the UK’s most prestigious interior designers, reinstated listed properties, refurbished rare antiquities and have been commissioned to make bespoke pieces. We employ a philosophy of sympathetic intervention in order to preserve the original patina and feel of the piece.

Over the years we have forged excellent relationships with all the major insurance and shipping companies including Criterion loss adjusters, a specialist claims service for high net worth clients. We have an unsurpassed attention to detail as well as an in-depth understanding of insurance procedures to effectively establish your exact requirements and address your needs efficiently. Whether your needs are related to fire, flood, damaged in transit or accidental damage, the team will supply you with written reports and estimates to submit to your insurers. Even though your whole world might have collapsed, we will take care of your cherished heirlooms and nurse them back to their former glory.

From the surgery workshop in Somerset/Dorset, we bring neglected pieces of furniture back to life, restore heirlooms and repair all types of furniture, keeping them in the family for future generations to enjoy.

Projects undertaken worldwide.

We have been working with Jake Radford for 6 years, and he has continually given us exceptional service.

Restoration

We’re experts in sympathetic restorations and believe in keeping as much history of the patina to enhance the piece’s original features. We sensitively utilise traditional methods with authentic materials, keeping the colours as true as possible whilst preserving the surface patina. With modern furniture, we use a different technique. Every piece has an individual treatment. Our prices are very competitive so won’t be disappointed.

French Polishing & Traditional Finishes

True French polishing arrived from shellack applied with a “fad” of wadding made into what is called a rubber. Many layers are built up over time to help to protect and enhance the grain of the wood and then waxed to a soft, mellow sheen. Jake Radford learned this art from the old cabinet factory at the Harrods warehouse in Barnes from the old school master craftsmen.

Jake repaired two pieces of antique furniture for me to a very high standard so I would highly recommend him. He also helped me on another project which showed his versatility and problem solving ability. He works quickly and efficiently with great attention to detail.

Small jobs

Jake did a fantastic job on my Mother’s writing bureau that had been broken for years. Although my Mother died 25 years ago, his repair brought back the memories and he charged a fair price for a great job. RECOMMENDED

Had a very special table restored by Jake. To say we were overwhelmed at the work he has done is an understatement. He has done the table and family proud. Couldn’t thank him enough.
